In May 2023, Dr. Vivek Murthy, United States Surgeon General, released an advisory raising concern regarding the “devastating impact” of loneliness and isolation in the country. The loneliness epidemic is a complex issue that has social, emotional, and physical impacts. As we navigate an increasingly fast-paced existence, understanding the causes and consequences of this loneliness epidemic has become imperative.
We surveyed 75 UNL students and asked them about loneliness. Here were our results:
